You must include certain documents with your application, otherwise we will not be able to process it.
Any documents supplied should be photocopies, not original documents. If your photo or scanned copies of documents do not meet the standards required, your application process will be delayed.
Evidence to support your application must be supplied within one month of your application. If we do not receive all evidence required within this time, your application will be refused.
What to include with your application
The following requirements apply for all applications:
Photos need to be similar to passport pictures but don’t need to be taken in a photo booth or by a professional. They can be taken with a digital camera or smart phone.
Your photo must be:
A true likeness or taken within the last 6 months
Of you on your own
A close up of your head and shoulders
In colour – we do not accept black and white
Taken against a plain, light background
Of you looking straight at the camera
Proof of identity
You must supply a copy of one of the following:
Valid passport (the photograph page)
Valid photocard driving licence
Civil Partnership/dissolution certificate
Proof of address
If you have not given consent for us to check either their council tax database, electoral register or school records as proof of your address, you must supply a copy of one of the following which is dated within the last 12 months:
Council tax bill
Benefit award letter
Valid driving licence
School allocation letter
Proof of eligibility
If one of the following circumstances applies to you, you need to send the relevant documents to help us process your application quicker.
If none of these options apply to you, you may still be eligible, but we will need to assess your situation before we can make a decision. You can complete the application as normal and we will be in touch.
You are registered as blind or have a severe sight impairment
If you have not given consent for us to check the Isle of Wight severe sight impairment register, you need to supply a copy of your Certificate of Vision Impairment (CVI).
You get the Higher rate of the mobility component of Disability Living Allowance
If you get this benefit you must supply either:
A copy of the original letter of entitlement to the benefit, issued within the last 12 months, or
A copy of the original award letter and your annual uprating letter dated within the last 12 months.
You get the mobility component of Personal Independence Payment (PIP)
To be eligible for a Blue Badge, you need to have either:
a score of 8 points or more under the ‘moving around’ section of PIP or
a score of 10 points in the ‘planning and following journeys’ on the grounds that you cannot undertake any journey because it would cause overwhelming psychological distress
If you get either of these, you must supply either:
a copy of your original letter of entitlement, including the front page and the page showing your score for the relevant section, issued within the last 12 months, or
a copy of your original award letter of entitlement, including the front page and the page showing your score for the relevant section and a copy of your annual uprating letter dated within the last 12 months
You’ve received a lump sum benefit under the Armed Forces and Reserve Forces scheme
Your benefit needs to be within tariff levels 1 - 8 for you to be eligible for a Blue Badge. You must supply a copy of your award letter as proof.
You receive the War Pensioners’ Mobility Supplement
You must enclose a copy of your award letter as proof.
