Blue Badges

Apply for or Renew a Blue Badge

The Blue Badge scheme helps disabled people with severe mobility problems to access goods and services by allowing them to park close to their destination.

Government has changed the way of assessing who gets a Blue Badge to make the process clearer and align it with wider disability benefit reforms. The Isle of Wight Council administers the scheme for the Isle of Wight on behalf of the Department for Transport

What happens once I have applied?

Once you have submitted your application, you must ensure you have supplied all evidence within one month of your application. Visit our ‘Evidence Required’ page click here for information on what documents you need to supply. We will not be able to process your application without this.

If you do not meet one of the ‘automatic qualifying’ criteria, we may ask you to supply further information and/or come to an assessment with an expert assessor.

Blue Badges cost £10 whether it is your first one or you are renewing or replacing it.

Please be aware of Blue Badge scams where you might be charged more than £10 for an application. These websites are not associated with the Blue Badge service and the application form supplied by these websites is not accepted by local authorities.

Once we have processed your application, if you are eligible for a Blue Badge, we will contact you requesting that you make a card payment of £10.

Reapplying for a Blue Badge

Blue Badges are valid for a maximum period of three years from the date of issue. They are not automatically renewed, and you need to reapply every three years or before the expiry date on your current badge.

If your application is unsuccessful

You may reapply for a Blue Badge in 6 months’ time, however you do not have to wait for 6 months if your condition deteriorates within that time. If you disagree with our decision you can request a reconsideration of the decision within one month of the letter you receive by writing to the Blue Badge Team either by email or post. You must state the reasons for your appeal and provide further medical evidence to support the request.
