Question: How large are the plots?

Answer: They are typically 7 metres x 14 metres. However some smaller plots are now available on some sites - if you think a full-sized plot will be too big for you or you want to reduce the size of an existing allotment please enquire about splitting plots. Smaller plots will normally also have reduced rent.

Question: Does the Council renovate any allotment plots at their sites for new tenants?

Answer: Not normally: they are rented as seen, and the new tenant has an opportunity to reject the plot if they are not satisfied with the quality. But because of high demand there are not many un-cultivated plots.

In exceptional cases where an allotment is very overgrown or has other problems the council may undertake works prior to handing over the allotment to a new tenant.

Question: Are there waiting lists for allotment sites on the Island?

Answer: Yes, all Council allotment sites have a waiting list. Some popular sites have a wait of up to 3 years although some can be less. If you join the list we will contact you when a plot becomes vacant on a site you have expressed an interest in. We can give you an idea of how popular a site is but we cannot guarantee a plot will become available or say how long you will have to wait as this depends on others giving up plots. Please contact Nicky Baker on 821000 to find out more.
