Car Club and Car Share schemes

Car share scheme

Want to save money - as a commuter you could typically save around £1,000 a year by car sharing.

If you are tired of being stuck in boring traffic jams on the way to work, join Liftshare and save your petrol, your pennies and make friends and reduce CO2 emissions and congestion along the way. Car sharing just once or twice a week can make a big difference to the environment and your pocket.

The council is working with transport consultant SYSTRA to promote Liftshare, a car sharing platform connecting environmentally conscious drivers and passengers so they can split costs and carbon emissions. All you need to do is register online at Liftshare IOW, input your start and end points, and wait for your Liftshare match – you can either offer a lift, look for a lift, or both.

There is no cost to the scheme, and you don’t have to commit to full-time car sharing – even one day a week is a step towards making a difference. As this platform is focused on businesses in Newport and along the Medina Valley corridor, your new travel partner could be a radar expert at BAE Systems, a heart surgeon from the hospital or a running enthusiast working on the High Street.
