The Community Alarm service provides peace of mind for people who feel at risk in their own homes. It is a service that is operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The service gives you the freedom to live your life independently knowing that you can obtain assistance when you need it.
Wightcare can provide a service that is available to anyone who feels at risk in their own home because of their age, disability, isolation, illness or vulnerability.
The community alarm service works via a special alarm unit connected to the telephone line. The alarm unit has a built in button, which you press to obtain assistance, alternatively the alarm can be activated by a pendant which is worn around the neck or on a wrist band. The range of the pendant allows you to live normally in your home.
If at any time you feel the need for any assistance then a simple press of the red button that is built in to the unit or the pendant will send a signal automatically utilising your telephone line to our Response Centre based in Newport where specialist equipment automatically tells staff who the call is coming from.
The alarm call will be answered by a trained operator who is able to speak to you without you having to lift the telephone receiver. In an emergency, the operator will get in touch with the people you previously agreed should be contacted in such circumstances, a dedicated and highly trained mobile responder and/or any other appropriate emergency service. You will be kept informed by the response centre of any action being taken on your behalf and will stay on the line in the event of a genuine emergency until help arrives with you.
Don't worry if you press the alarm by accident. The response centre operator will enquire after your well-being and once satisfied that you do not require assistance, end the call.
