Treasure Inquests
In England, if you find something that could be a treasure, you need to tell the local Finds Liaison Officer (FLO). You must make a report to the local FLO.
A report will be written for the Coroner explaining if the find has been identified as treasure or not. If the item is thought to be treasure and a museum wishes to acquire it, the Coroner will open and list an Inquest.
The purpose of the treasure inquest is to find out
- if it is treasure
- who found it
- when and where it was found
