Isle of Wight Crematorium
Riverside Cherry Tree update
Sadly, despite our best efforts, we have been unable to slow down the disease and decay in this established tree. This autumn the tree trunk will be hand carved by local carver Paul Sivell into a natural tribute in remembrance of loved ones whose ashes are scattered in this area.
A replacement cherry tree has been planted a short distance away.
Gardens and grounds
The Isle of Wight Crematorium is set in rural woodland. This provides visitors with a haven for quiet contemplation and remembrance.
You can gather your thoughts in this beautiful natural environment before or after the service.
The gardens include
- woodland paths with babbling brook
- a wildflower meadow
- formal gardens
The 10 acres of grounds are sensitively maintained and are home to
- hedgehogs
- red squirrels
- pipistrelle bats
- woodland birds like woodpeckers and jays
Within the grounds is a dedicated baby garden with a wooden summerhouse. Families can leave tributes here and sit to remember their baby.
The grounds are open throughout the year. The Crematorium Manager and staff are available Monday to Fridays from 9am to 4.30pm.
Weekend staff are available for limited periods on a Saturday.

Metal recycling scheme
The Isle of Wight Crematorium takes part in the Institute of Cemetery and Crematorium Management (ICCM) recycling scheme. Metal residues from the cremation process are collected and recycled. Net income raised from the sale of the metals is donated. Different local bereavement charities each year benefit each year.
You can ask for the return of metal residues if they do not wish to take part in this scheme.
In 2023 we donated £6000 each to the Wessex Cancer Support and Cardiac Risk in the Young from this scheme.
