Order a death certificate

We cannot provide certificates for a death that did not occur on the Isle of Wight

The Council holds the right to charge an administration fee of up to £25.00 for refunds. This applies if you cancel your application or the application does not relate to a death that took place on the Isle of Wight on or after 1 July 1837.

Approved refunds will be processed to the payment card used for the original transaction.

How to order a death certificate

To order a death certificate (including copies or historic death certificates) you will need to provide the following: 

  • full name and surname of the deceased at the time of death
  • whether the deceased had been known by any other name
  • date of death (or year)
  • place of death – hospital, town, or district.
Please note that we only hold records for deaths registered on the Isle of Wight.

There are three delivery options:

  • Second class post within 15 working days at £12.50 per certificate.
  • Priority service - certificate produced within 24 hours (Monday to Friday, excludes public holidays) at £38.50 per certificate. You will receive a phone call and an email when the certificate is ready to collect – make sure you have provided us with your correct contact details. Collection from Seaclose. 
  • Standard service - certificate produced within 5 working days at £12.50 per certificate. You will receive an email when the certificate is ready to collect.  Make sure you have provided us with your correct contact details. Collection from Seaclose.

Payment is via debit or credit card.
