Reporting a Scam

Many scams go unreported, this is usually due to the embarrassment and shame that victims feel when they realise that they have been scammed.

However, it is really important that any incidents of scams are reported to us. Although we cannot act on them, it provides valuable intelligence and we hope to be able to use these reports to warn other potential victims of the current scams that affect residents.

  • For advice on scams, call Citizens Advice helpline on 0808 223 1133
  • To report a scam, call Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040 or visit the Action Fraud website.
  • Phishing emails can be forwarded to report@phishing.gov.uk.
  • The public can report any type of SMS scams by forwarding the original message to 7726, which spells SPAM on your keypad.

If you or someone you know is being scammed, you can report it to us at trading.standards@iow.gov.uk. If you are just advising us of a scam you are aware of, for us to update our pages, we may not reply to you. Your information is invaluable to us in protecting other vulnerable residents.
