Can I film in a Council building?

Use of Council buildings for commercial filming will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Applications will be assessed on the nature of filming, size and requirements of the production, timing and notice period, and any potential impact to council services or staff.

A minimum of three weeks’ notice is usually required.

Location fees are applicable for filming in all Council Buildings.

Does the Council charge a location fee for filming in its buildings?

We charge a location fee to ensure we recoup any costs incurred from use of council buildings and staff time.

Use of council buildings is not guaranteed and will depend on the timing, nature, and size of your production.

How do I apply to film in a Council building?

You can apply to use Council buildings through filmwight - the Island’s official Film Office.

filmwight are endorsed by the Isle of Wight Council and they act as the official liaison between the council and the production.

filmwight can also advise on the likelihood of your request being considered and approved based on the information you supply.
