The talented athlete scheme is a sponsored discount scheme. It has been designed to help gifted sports people reach their full potential. The scheme ends on 31 December 2022.

Eligibility

Please check you are eligible against the criteria. Only official National Governing Body rankings are considered. Should your chosen discipline have less than 20 participants ranked, athletes must form part of the top 20%.

Young people

The scheme provides support for you to access and train for top level competition within your chosen sport. You must be:

  • ranked in the top 10 regional level or top 5 at county level (Hampshire), national or international rankings considered within the last 12 months
  • a current member of a county or regional team
  • an Isle of Wight resident
  • aged 16 or under (as of 31 December in the year of application)
  • competing in a sport or discipline that is recognised by Sport England and governed by a National Governing Body (NGB) that is also recognised by Sport England, or a National Disability Sports Organisation (NDSO).

Adults

The scheme provides support for you to access and train for top level competition within your chosen sport. You must be:

  • be ranked in the top 20 Nationally for your sport within the last 12 months
  • be selected for a national development program or member of a national team
  • an Isle of Wight resident
  • competing in a sport or discipline that is recognised by Sport England and governed by a National Governing Body (NGB) that is also recognised by Sport England, or a National Disability Sports Organisation (NDSO)
  • a non-professional
