Reporting to Deputy Headteacher

The Island Learning Centre is a pupil referral unit that supports some of the most vulnerable young people on the island. An exciting opportunity now exists to join our highly inclusive school. 

Do you have experience of dealing with challenging behaviour? 

Would you be interested in supporting young people with learning difficulties or social, emotional and mental health issues?

Working within a dedicated and enthusiastic staff team, the successful candidate will be able to help remove barriers to students’ learning and enable them to achieve their potential.

The closing date for applications is noon on 20th September 2019:  

Interviews will be undertaken during the weeks beginning 7th and 14th October 2019. 

The interview will be in two parts. Long listed candidates will be invited to the Centre and have the opportunity to meet the team, look around the Centre, and share ideas. From this successful candidates will then be invited back to undertake a formal interview the following week.

Please note that this role falls within the strategic partnership between the Isle of Wight Council and Hampshire County Council. The employer will be the Isle of Wight Council and employment is on Isle of Wight terms and conditions. Hampshire County Council delivers, on behalf of the Isle of Wight Council, all of its children’s services functions and did so for an agreed period of five years from 1 July 2013. The original five year partnership arrangement under direction of the Secretary of State finished in 2018 but has been extended voluntarily by both local authorities for a further five years. 

The management reporting line for this role is ultimately through Hampshire County Council Children’s Services Director/Assistant Director and managers who take operational responsibility for children’s services.
