This is an exciting opportunity to work as part of an established and successful speech and language therapy service, in a role which provides great variety and opportunities for creative working in the beautiful Isle of Wight location. The Schools Speech and Language Support Team adopts a highly collaborative and responsive approach to our work in schools, which enables us to offer a unique and effective service which is valued by our education settings.


This is a role with the Isle of Wight School’s Speech and Language Support Service, working with senior therapists, specialist teacher advisors, speech and language therapists and assistants within Island schools and settings to meet the SLCN (including severe and complex communication needs) of children and young people. The successful applicant will work under the guidance of speech and language therapists and a specialist teacher advisor. The post would suit someone with a wide range of experience of working in education settings, across a range of key stages and who has undertaken additional specialist training related to supporting students with speech, language and communication needs. This could potentially be offered as a secondment opportunity.


The successful applicant will have the opportunity to fulfil a role with many different elements to it, where no two days are ever the same. The successful applicant will deliver intervention and training and provide guidance and support for staff in schools, as well as contribute to the information gathering process for speech and language therapy assessments. Collaborative team working is an important element of our work and this results in fantastic partnerships with families, school staff and other professionals involved.


You will receive regular supervision and support from highly skilled, trained and experienced speech and language therapists and there will be regular opportunities for training and continuing professional development.


The successful applicant will be working as part of an innovative, dynamic and highly supportive team, that is driven to ensure more positive outcomes for children, young people, schools and families on the Isle of Wight

The employer will be the Isle of Wight Council and employment is on Isle of Wight terms and conditions. Hampshire County Council delivers, on behalf of the Isle of Wight Council, all of its children’s services functions and did so for an agreed period of five years from 1 July 2013, the original five year partnership arrangement under direction of the Secretary of State finished in 2018 but has been extended voluntarily by both local authorities for a further five years.


The management reporting line for this role is ultimately through Hampshire County Council Children’s Services Director/Assistant Director and managers who take operational responsibility for children’s services.
