Hours: 120 hours per annum

The Governing Board are seeking to appoint a Clerk to the Governors who is professional, personable and efficient, with a genuine interest and preferably some experience in school governance. However, training can be given for applicants who wish to add a new and

rewarding experience to the CV.

 

Candidates will need good administrative and communication skills, preferably with

experience of minute taking. They will also need good IT skills, (be familiar in the use of

Microsoft Word, Excel, Email and Google docs) and have access to a computer and internet at home. They must also have a positive attitude to personal development and training and have a flexible approach to working hours.

 

Responsibilities will include working effectively with the Chair of Governors, Headteacher and other governors to secure the continuity of Governing Board business and to advise on

procedural and legislative matters to ensure the Governing Board works to the legal

 framework. An understanding of confidentiality is essential for the role. Tasks include the preparation and circulation of papers, attendance at meetings and minute taking and keeping up to date with current educational developments and legislation affecting school governance. Full training is available to support inexperienced practitioners who are new to clerking.

This role falls within the strategic partnership between the Isle of Wight Council and Hampshire County Council. The employer will be the Isle of Wight Council and employment is on Isle of Wight terms and conditions. Hampshire County Council has delivered, on behalf of the Isle of Wight Council, all of its children’s services functions and will continue to do so until 2023. The original five-year partnership arrangement under direction of the Secretary of State finished in 2018 but has been extended voluntarily by both local authorities for a further five years

The management reporting line for this role is ultimately through Hampshire County Council Children’s Services Director/Assistant Director and managers who take operational responsibility for children’s services.
