This is a unique opportunity to build more bridges between the council and the independent sector here on the Island, enabling better working, better communication and encouraging joined up thinking for everyone working in the care sector on the Isle of Wight.
We need an inspirational leader to step out of the Independent Sector for the next 12 months and join our Commissioning Team to focus on supporting provider sector relationships, information sharing and challenging existing thinking within the Local Authority and CCG.
This is a fixed term contract, where you will influence how we commission care and support services in our local area. This will require, identifying best practice from elsewhere and working with local providers to adjust existing business models for the future.
We know how important it is to understand issues facing independent sector care providers across domiciliary care, residential care and nursing care, and never more so as the sector tries to recover from the impact of the pandemic.
We are embarking on this year long project to learn and evolve with the support of someone who can offer both recent and significant experience of working within a CQC registered care provider organisation at a senior level. It is essential that the CQC registered care provider was rated Good or Outstanding by the CQC too.
You'll need to be dynamic and motivated by supporting Island people to live their best lives as you work as a sector representative, able to understand and empathise with the challenges facing both independent sector providers and local authorities.
You’ll encourage robust, frank and productive communication and will need the confidence and experience to rise to every challenge – understanding that, to affect change and keep improving, conflict and resolution will be inevitable!
This isn’t the first time we’ve taken this dynamic approach, we know that taking time to bridge the gap between council and providers is hugely beneficial, our previous post holder Ian Bennett (a director of the largest care home group on the Island) said:
“This has been a challenging and rewarding 10 months. I’ve had a crash course in how commissioning and the wider health and social care system works – and doesn’t! I’ve had the opportunity to work in a close team delivering big change locally whilst supporting providers and, frankly, demanding that we’re listened to”.
The previous post holder was integral to working with providers, supporting change within commissioning, and building strong and lasting relationships. Duties included chairing regular independent sector engagement forums, to involving providers in the development of new system and running test and learn pilots.
If successful, you too will become a vital liaison point for raising issues and concerns as well as becoming a ‘voice’ for providers within our local system ensuring needs are met.
To drive forward the delivery of our improvement agenda, you will need to be a dynamic and authoritative individual, deeply motivated by supporting Island people to live their best lives. You need to be invested in our local community and ambitious for local people.
