Can you bring your skills to our Public Health Team?  Will you rise to the challenge and take charge of an important portfolio supporting health improvement and prevention work in our local communities?

You will work as part of the Public Health team and play an active role supporting Senior Practitioners and Principals to implement and deliver health improvement programmes and work collaboratively, support projects and deliver on aspects of the Public Health strategy. As part of the larger Hampshire and Isle of Wight Public Health Team, we have the benefits of being a small, close knit unit, that is currently growing, able to provide valuable peer support, teamed with the expertise and opportunities of a large, multi-disciplinary workforce. The post is full time and permanent.

You will influence the work of others and use your talents to deliver key programmes of work, including playing a key part in delivering Healthy Places work with the Regeneration Directorate and the Neighbourhoods Directorate in Isle of Wight Council. There will be a focus on reducing the health impact of poverty and inequalities (including food poverty), green and blue spaces, active travel, air quality, working with the planning team on the impact on health of housing and development, and overseeing a significant project to change how we engage with our communities and gain insight from that work to develop and commission services for public health and wider partners. You’ll also be developing and driving forward other elements of the Public Health strategy related to Healthy Places.

You will be involved in:

• developing and driving forward action plans

• developing partnership working

• supporting the commissioning of services

As a dedicated professional, you’ll be aware of the latest developments in your field and you will help us to be innovative, ensuring local practice keeps up to date with best practice. To succeed you’ll also understand the breadth of public policy and be able to work at a population level, translating changes achieved by individuals and communities into health improvement across the community.

You will be a good communicator and self-starter, able to be organised, good at team working, reporting progress and effective at seeking agreement for decisions. You will become confident at contributing your ideas while consistently working to standard processes and working within your level of experience and expertise.

Public Health is committed to workforce development and training and if you display the potential to develop a career in public health there will be further training and learning opportunities open to you.

Applicants will ideally have a Master’s degree in a field relevant to public health, however we would also welcome applications from people with qualifications and experience in transport, planning or strategic community development

Benefits include:

• Annual leave of 31 days per annum, plus public holidays

• Local government pension scheme

• Local and national staff discounts and benefits, including Solent travel discounts

• Staff parking permit scheme

We are a very supportive and friendly team, delivering across the public health agenda.  We offer fantastic development and training opportunities alongside generous annual leave entitlement, flexible working and a local government pension scheme.  If this sparks your interest, and you think you might be the person we are looking for, we would be delighted to hear from you.
