Following the retirement of the existing postholder our Governors are looking to recruit an Executive School Business Manager to join our happy and hardworking team to further make a difference to the education and life chances of our children.  Our two schools federated in April 2014 and benefit from a shared senior leadership team who are ambitious and continually strive for excellence.  The new postholder will report directly to the Executive Headteacher and contribute to the shared vision for success.

We are looking for someone special to work in partnership with the Executive School Bursar to
advise on and implement the day-to-day support that enables the schools to operate effectively and efficiently.  This will include all matters relating to HR, premises, health & safety, compliance and contract management to ensure that both schools make the best possible use of their resources.  This varied and exciting role may particularly suit an existing School Business Manager seeking the next step to broaden their experience within a multi-site role or equally be suitable for someone working within the business sector who:


·       Can achieve the highest standards in all aspects of HR, health & safety, premises and contract management

·       Is an organised, efficient, practical, motivational and inspiring team player

·       Can remain calm, manage workloads under pressure, work flexibly, prioritise and problem solve

·       Is friendly and approachable with a welcoming and professional manner

·       Is able to show discretion and respect confidentiality at all times

·       Is seeking a role where they can make a real difference to the development and operation of the federation.


We are looking for a person who will bring natural organisation skills to the role as well as a practical, ‘hands on’ approach. It is essential that the postholders have excellent numeracy and literacy skills. Demonstrable proficiency in MS Office packages including Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Outlook is essential and experience in Capita SIMS and FMS is also desirable.  You will need to work in an efficient manner, embrace that no two days are ever the same and have a “get the job done” attitude!

The position is to start in April 2023 and is a full time, term time post with 20 additional days to be worked flexibly during school holidays. There is some flexibility with timings of the working day.

This role falls within the strategic partnership between the Isle of Wight Council and Hampshire County Council. The employer will be the Isle of Wight Council and employment is on Isle of Wight terms and conditions. Hampshire County Council has delivered, on behalf of the Isle of Wight Council, all of its children’s services functions and will continue to do so until 2023. The original five-year partnership arrangement under direction of the Secretary of State finished in 2018 but has been extended voluntarily by both local authorities for a further five years.

The management reporting line for this role is ultimately through Hampshire County Council Children’s Services Director/Assistant Director and managers who take operational responsibility for children’s services.
