The Role:

The Holiday Activity and Food Programme is a high profile programme both nationally and locally across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.

Since 2018 the government has supported
holiday activities and food programmes to provide support to children in receipt of free school meals through holiday periods. Following successful pilots between 2018 and 2020, the programme was rolled out to all upper tier local authorities in 2021. Successful national delivery has provided three years of funding for the programme up to March 2025. This three year funding is enabling a new team to be appointed to deliver the programme.

The programme supports school aged children with eligibility for free schools meals to access food and enriching activity schemes across the three main
school holiday periods of Easter, Summer and Christmas. The total value of the programme is up to £11.6m, with HCC allocation totalling up to £10.3m and Isle of Wight up to £1.3m from 2022 and 2025.

Hampshire County Council
Children's Services is commissioning Holiday Activities with Food schemes for eligible children and young people. The team will commission individual places, bespoke or specialist schemes for eligible children and their families for both Hampshire and Isle of Wight areas. Holiday activities and food programme also help families to develop an understanding of nutrition and food budgeting and put them in touch with support services related to health, employment, or education.

The programme continues to evolve, and this provides an exciting opportunity for the team to develop the programme to meet changing need. Successful applicants will need to be able to work in a changing environment.
