Welcome to Sandown Library

The library provides a welcoming space to relax in the heart of Sandown. 

Our library facilities includes a community learning room which is available for hire.

The library is supported locally by our friends group which helps to raise money for the library and to provide regular events of all kinds. Join our online events through our Friends of Sandown Library Facebook page.

  • Tuesday: 9am to 12.30pm and 1.30pm to 5pm
  • Wednesday: Closed
  • Thursday: 9am to 12.30pm and 1.30pm to 5pm
  • Friday: 9am to 12.30pm and 1.30pm to 5pm
  • Saturday: 9am to 12.30pm and 1.30pm to 4.30pm

Sandown Library Quiz night

  • Thursday 25 September at 6pm for a 6.30pm start.
  • Teams of up to 6 people
  • £4 per person (cash only) which includes soft drinks and snacks (BYO alcohol)

Regular events

Rhymetime

Held every Thursday from 10.30am to 11am. Free singing, dancing and music for toddlers.

Historical association

We have an exhibition of old Sandown photos throughout history, courtesy of the Sandown and District Historical Association. These are updated regularly and are well worth a look.

Find My Past

We have free access to ancestry website 'Find My Past'. Search for your ancestors in census records and use parish records to find births, marriages, and deaths dating back to 1538. Pop into the library for more information, or call us. Booking is a good idea but not essential.

Family history

If you would like help getting started with your family history make an appointment for a free, one-to-one, hour-long session in the library. Sessions are on Thursdays at 11.30am. Booking is essential. Contact us by email at libraries@iow.gov.uk or call 01983 402748.

Knit and Natter

Takes place every Friday at 1.30pm. Whether you’re an experienced knitter or a complete novice, come along and join in the fun. Free tea and coffee provided.

Crochet group

Takes place every Friday at 10am - all abilities and beginners welcome. Please bring your own crochet supplies. Free tea and coffee provided.

Dance Makers

Held every Thursday at 1.30pm to 2.30pm. A gentle, creative programme of dance exercises. All levels of mobility welcome. £3 a session. For more details, call 07519559818

LEGO Club

Held on the first and third Saturdays of every month from 11am to 12.00pm. Our LEGO Club is free of charge, and there is no need to book. Come along and create models from our huge collection of LEGO. Adults welcome to join in.

Cinema Screenings

A film is shown on the second Friday of every month at 7pm (doors open at 6.40pm). Tickets are £3 each, available in advance from Sandown Library. A matinee screening is held on the second Saturday of every month at 1.45pm (doors open 1.30pm). Tickets are £3 each, available in advance from Sandown Library.

Takes place every Thursday at 11.30am. Suggested donation £3 per person.
