Reservations and requests
Reserving an Item
You can reserve any loanable item which is in stock in our library catalogue, already out on loan to someone else, or is on order. How to reserve an item:
- log into the library catalogue and search for the item you want
- click the Place Reservation button and select which library you would like to pick your reservation up from.
There is a charge of 60p for this service which will be added to your library account. You will be asked to pay this the next time you go into a library or when you pick up your reservation.
We will contact you when your reservation is ready for collection.
There is sometimes a waiting list for the most popular titles. For more information, contact us or call into your local library.
Requesting a book not in the Library
If you want a book which is not in our library service catalogue, you can either ask us to buy it for our collection or we can try to borrow it from another library.
Purchase request
To suggest that our library service buys a book that we do not currently have in stock, complete this form with as much information as you have. You will need to log in with your library card number and PIN to access this form
We cannot guarantee that all new stock suggestions will be purchased, but we will purchase it if we think the item would make a valuable addition to our stock.
Once the book arrives, we will reserve it for you.
Inter-library loan request
You can go into your local library to borrow a book from another library service if we do not have it in our catalogue. Any questions you have will be explained by staff before you agree to request an inter-library loan. Our library staff will explain the process to you and charges that will apply for this service.
We will then search through all the public, academic, and national libraries in the UK to try to find a copy we can borrow for you.
Once the book arrives, we will put a reservation on it for you.
Charges that may apply to special requests will be added to your library account, such as:
- a reservation charge of 60p
- an inter-library loan charge of £7.45
- the inter-library loan charge increases to £11.45 if we have to borrow the book from the British Library
- to renew a book borrowed from the British Library, there is an additional charge of £4.45.
Pay any charges that apply the next time you go into a library or when you pick up your reservation. We will contact you when your reservation is ready for collection.
