Monumental inscriptions

Find gravestone records on the Isle of Wight

We keep written records from gravestones and memorials in many churchyards across the Island. These are called monumental inscriptions.

You can use these records to:

  • trace your family history
  • learn about local people from the past
  • find out who is buried in a churchyard

How to view these records

  • view the list of churches below to see which ones have inscription records
  • check the Personal Names Index in our Record Office searchroom, to search for names in each churchyard and the transcripts of these inscriptions
  • ask us for help if you're looking for something specific
