The Chair of the Isle of Wight Council is swapping the Chamber for choons this Saturday (11 October) — and he couldn’t be prouder.

Councillor Ian Dore, former soldier and DJ, is dusting off his headphones and returning to one of his lifelong passions: DJing.

And this isn’t just any gig. He’ll be spinning the tunes at a very special fundraising night in support of Mountbatten, the Island’s cherished hospice, as he graces the decks at DECADeANCE, closing out 15 incredible years.

Ian said: “I’ve played Bestival, the Festival, run my own nights and much more but DECADeANCE has always escaped me.

"I’ve known the organiser, Tony Martin, for years. It’s a stonking gig, but the planets just never aligned. To get the opportunity on the final one is an absolute hoofer.

"The dancefloor was a place where friendships and relationships were made, as we moved and grooved to whatever was playing. It's sorely missed these days. For all the change we’ve seen recently, some things remain the same.

"That’s the power of music — to bring people together. Just like the incredible work Mountbatten does for our community.”

Mountbatten has supported thousands of Island residents and their families through life’s most challenging moments, offering compassionate end-of-life care and vital support services.

For the Chair, being part of an event that gives back to such a special organisation feels deeply personal.

“It’s an honour to swap council papers for playlists, helping to raise funds for a cause that means so much to so many," he added.

"As well as raising the yackers, I hope the tunes will raise some hands, lift spirits, and make it a belter to go out on. Tony deserves huge credit for this amazing event and the volunteers that support it.

"Raising more than £100,000 for Mountbatten since 2009 is mic-drop staggering. A true local hero, using the medium of music as the mechanism. Can't wait to get up there!”

The night at Cowes Yacht Haven promises more than just great music. It’s a chance to celebrate Mountbatten's extraordinary work, share memories, and ensure they can continue supporting those who need them most.

With laughter, dancing, and a healthy dose of nostalgia on the cards, it’s shaping up to be a feel-good evening with a serious purpose.
