What is the Island Planning Strategy

We are preparing a new local plan called the Island Planning Strategy. This is to replace the Island Plan Core Strategy.

The Island Planning Strategy (IPS) is a plan for development on the island over the next 15 years. The Council consulted the local community to help develop the plan.

We have published our ‘submission version’ of the Island Planning Strategy, for 6 weeks. You could comment from Monday 8 July 2024 until midnight on Monday 19 August 2024.

How to comment on the Island Planning Strategy

The Regulation 19 period closed on Monday 19 August 2024. The council is now reviewing all of the comments made during that period before submitting the plan, duly made comments and evidence base to the Secretary of State for examination in public.

Further information relating to the date of submission will be updated here in due course.

What happens next

Now the 6 week consultation period has finished, the council will process the comments received before submitting to the Secretary of State for the public examination

  • the Island Planning Strategy
  • the evidence base
  • all comments received during the ‘Regulation 19’ period for representation

The Secretary of State will then appoint an independent Planning Inspector. They will carry out the public examination of the plan, evidence base and comments made.
