Island Roads take care of our highway maintenance on the Island. Highway maintenance activities include:

  • bus shelters and bus stop posts
  • potholes / road defects
  • flyposting
  • dead animal removal
  • footway maintenance
  • bridges and structures
  • cats eyes - damaged or missing
  • road markings
  • faulty street lights
  • damaged kerb stones
  • traffic signal problems
  • flooding, water discharge onto the highway
  • road defects
  • repainting lines
  • roadside ditches and verges
  • ragwort on the highway verge
  • spillage and / or debris on roads
  • maintenance of vegetation
  • verge cutting and maintenance
  • grass cutting 
  • weed spraying
  • missing / dangerous paving slabs, paviours, inspection covers
  • CCTV
  • pedestrian crossings
  • street lighting
  • traffic calming features
  • signage
  • street furniture (i.e bollards, cycle racks, bins, benches)

Sandbags

In some emergency situations the Isle of Wight Council will, where possible, position stocks of sandbags at strategic locations around the Island. In instances such as these the locations will be issued through local media and through the Council's website, Facebook and Twitter accounts. Alternatively, see sandbag collection points.

Report a highways issue
