When will the elections take place?

The elections for the Isle of Wight Town, Parish and Community Councils, where contested, will take place on Thursday 1 May 2025.

  • Cowes Town Council – Cowes South Ward
  • East Cowes Town Council – Osborne Ward
  • Godshill Parish Council
  • Ryde Town Council – Ryde North West Ward
  • Ryde Town Council – Ryde South East Ward
  • Ryde Town Council – Ryde West Ward
  • Sandown Town Council – Sandown North Ward
  • Sandown Town Council – Sandown South Ward
  • Shalfleet Parish Council – Shalfleet East Ward
  • Shalfleet Parish Council – Shalfleet West Ward
  • Shanklin Town Council – Shanklin Central Ward
  • Yarmouth Town Council – Thorley Ward

In other Town, Parish and Community Council wards across the Island, the number of candidates did not exceed the number of vacancies, so no elections will take place. 

Election details

Polling Cards, where requested by the Town, Parish and Community Councils for contested elections, will be delivered in mid-April 2025. It will give details of either your local Polling Station or of your Postal Vote. This depends on your choice of voting method.

Important dates 

To allow you to vote at this or any other election, you will need an approved form of photographic identification. If you do not have any suitable form of photographic identification you can apply for a free Voter Authority Certificate. These are provided by the UK Government.

The last date to apply for a 'Voter Authority Certificate' is 5pm on Wednesday 23 April 2025.

If you know that you will be unable to vote in person, then you can apply for either a 'Postal Vote or a Proxy Vote' (where someone votes on your behalf).

The last date to apply for, or to cancel a 'Postal Vote' is 5pm on Monday 14 April 2025.

The last date to apply for, or to cancel a 'Proxy Vote' is 5pm on Wednesday 23 April 2025.

Nomination Papers

The nomination papers for the Isle of Wight Town, Parish and Community Councils are available for you to use. The deadline for the delivery of Nomination Papers is 4:00pm Wednesday 2 April 2025.

Polling stations will open from 7am to 10pm on Thursday 1 May 2025.

Photographic identification will be required to vote in person at a polling station.
