Annexes
Exemptions for annexes
Unoccupied annexes
You may be able to get an exemption on an unoccupied annexe that can’t be let separately.
This means it is:
- unoccupied
- forms part of a single property
- can’t be let separately from the property without a breach of planning control.
Dependant relative living in an annexe
If the annexe your dependant relative lives in as their only home forms part of another property and has a different Council Tax band, it may be exempt.
A relative is classed as a dependant if they are:
- over 65
- substantially or permanently disabled
- severely mentally impaired.
Discounts for annexes
You may be able to get a discount for an annexe where you have family members living in the annexe or the annexe is used as part of the main home.
Email council.tax@iow.gov.uk if you wish to apply for a discount.
