How to apply for a course

  2. Select the course you would like to attend 
  3. Or feel free to email us at learning.development@iow.gov.uk if you are unable to find a course you would like to attend or need more information
  4. Make sure you have authorisation to attend the course from your line manager
  5. Complete the online application form using the link on the course page 
  6. Submit the online course application form
  7. Isle of Wight Council employees can book using the Learning Hub
  8. When allocating places we operate on a first come first served basis. Book early to avoid disappointment!

Course fees

If there is a course fee, an invoice will be sent. The invoice will be sent to the billing address given on the course application form.

Standards of service

The service holds the Matrix Quality Standard. This is for the provision of information, advice and guidance for learning and work. The standard recognises organisations who work within the following quality assurance standards:

  • Effective forward planning, goal setting, progress measures and use of resources.
  • Meeting clients’ needs. Ensuring consistency through the employment of competent and appropriately qualified staff. Efficient and prompt administrative procedures. High standard of facilities and accommodation.
  • Improving retention, achievement and progression rates on courses.
  • Evaluating performance and identifying ways to continually improve and develop programmes. Through representative groups such as:
    •  Development governor forum 
    • Continued Professional Development (CPD) leaders’ meetings 
    • Observations of training programmes

The Learning and Development service is also a registered City & Guilds Centre.

Learning centres/venues

Westridge Learning Centre

Parking is available at the front of the building. Use of the car park requires a parking permit.

  • Isle of Wight Council staff can purchase a daily permit through the MiPermit App. As a staff member please make sure you have set up your staff permit account by emailing: parking.services@iow.gov.uk
  • Other attendees can obtain a permit from the reception of The Learning Centre. 

Upon arrival please report to the main Reception in the Westridge Learning Centre. Reception staff will take attendance on the day. Failure to report to reception may result in a non-attendance charge. 

Lunch is not provided. However tea and coffee are available from our refreshment machines. Drinks are priced at £1.50. Please note the machines only accept cash.

Cancellation and non-attendance policy

All course costs can be found on The Learning Hub.

Cancellation guidelines

  • Cancellations must be made 14 days or more before the course date
  • There is no charge for cancellations that meet this requirement.

Cancellation charges

Re-schedule or cancel bookings

To re-schedule or cancel your booking, please contact us within 14 days before the course date or as soon as possible.

  • Isle of Wight Council staff need to reschedule or cancel via The Learning hub
  • For external attendees please email

Isle of Wight Council staff cancel using the Learning hub: 

  1. To cancel or re-schedule your booking access the learning hub
  2. Return to your selected course page
  3. Select cancel next to the date you were due to attend and then re-book a new date or cancel. 
  4. Cancellation charges may be applicable, please read the cancellation guidelines.

Please note: declining the meeting invitation will not cancel your place on the course.

Non-attendance

Non-attendance on the day or cancellation less than 14 days before the course date will mean you will be charged for the full cost of the event. 

  • For events which are fully funded, you will be charged a fee of £50.00.

If course attendance is not possible due to unforeseen circumstances, consideration will be given to waive the charge.  This is at the discretion of the Learning and Development Service.

Substitutions from the same workplace are accepted and will not be charged for as long as the names on the register are amended to reflect this on the day.
