Godshill Primary School Public Consultation

When will the Godshill Primary School Public Consultation run?

Consultation opens: Friday 26 September 2025

Consultation closes: Midnight, Friday 24 October 2025

What is the background to the consultation?

Godshill Primary School currently operates with an age range of 2 to 11 years.

The governing body has submitted a proposal to the Isle of Wight Council to amend the school’s age range to 4 to 11 years. Early Years provision for children aged 0 to 4 would be delivered onsite by a private provider.

This change forms part of a wider school restructuring process. If approved, the revised age range will take effect from 1 January 2026.

What is the purpose of the consultation?

The purpose of this consultation is to seek public feedback on the proposed increase in the lower age range from 2 years to 4 years.

The consultation is run according to the Department for Education’s guidance.

A public consultation on the proposal will run for four weeks between 26 September and 24 October 2025.

During this period a public notice will be issued inviting comments and objections. The school will ensure that all parents and carers are informed.

If the proposal is accepted, Godshill Primary School will cease direct operation of its preschool. It will seek a new external Early Years provider. The existing preschool facilities will remain in use. This will support continuity of care and education for families in the local community.

Estimated capital costs of less than £15,000 will be required to upgrade the existing preschool area. This will accommodate a new external Early Years provider.

Proposal

The lower age range for Godshill Primary School would be increased from 2 years old to 4 years old. The school would no longer directly deliver the current early years provision (2 to 4 years old).
